Founder & Director
Holding a Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning and a Licenced Real Estate Agent, John Ferguson founded Property Potential Co after recognising a gap he repeatedly encountered throughout his time in real estate —property owners were often receiving excellent planning advice or excellent property market advice, but rarely an independent understanding of how the two came together.
With professional experience spanning strategic planning, advisory roles and real estate, John developed a unique perspective on property. Rather than viewing planning and market value as separate conversations, he learned that the best property decisions are made when both are considered together. That philosophy became the foundation of Property Potential Co.
Growing up in rural Queensland and later working across regional Queensland, North Queensland and the Sunshine Coast gave John an appreciation that every property has a story shaped by its planning, location and community. This broader perspective allows him to look beyond a property's current use and identify opportunities that might otherwise be missed.
Combined with family ties spanning generations across the Sunshine Coast—from Maleny and Nambour to Coolum—John brings both genuine local knowledge and professional insight into the region's evolving planning framework, growth patterns and property market. His focus on the Sunshine Coast reflects a belief that meaningful advice comes from understanding a place deeply, not simply analysing data.
Throughout his career, John has helped people navigate complex information, assess opportunities and make informed decisions with confidence. He understands that most property owners don't need more technical jargon—they need clear, practical insights that support better decision-making. That belief continues to shape every Property Potential Check and Property Potential Report.
John created Property Potential Co. as an independent, preliminary, desktop-based property decision-support service that helps residential and acreage property owners better understand their property's opportunities, constraints and value potential before committing significant time, money or resources to consultants, builders or applications.
His goal is simple: to help property owners understand their property's potential so they can make better property decisions before making bigger ones.
